Mother-Daughter Weekend

The past week of work is now a bit of a blur in my mind, mostly a lot of meetings, including one with my book editor (I have just got to get that book moving!!).

On the global front, its a scary time as Trump has begun the war with Iran. Everything is chaotic in the middle east with lots of escalation and retaliation with disrupted travel, inflated oil prices, and shocking scenes on the news each night. Of course, especially worrying is what is going on for the civilians who are the biggest victims, like Nas and Saeed, whose extended families still live in Iran.

Anyway putting aside global troubles, this weekend was a Mother-Daughter weekend in Mandurah. Over ten years ago, Nas set up regular walks of mothers and their daughters. This weekend was a celebration of those ten years in which we've walked just about every second Sunday every month. Early on, always with daughters, but in more recent times its often just been the mothers as the kids are often working or busy.

I got a lift down to Mandurah with Amy and Jane on Friday afternoon. We arrived at the airbnb (a large house) around 4pm, then Nas/ Sana arrived not much later followed by Kirsty and Liv. Talia and Melissa got there around 830pm, after Melissa's work. We had a meal with Nas's special rice and chicken, then spent a few hours in the spa and sauna. Lots of chatting and laughing.

On Saturday morning, I think we all thought we "should walk"... So we set off to see one of the giants. But it was super hot, and honestly a bit too hot for walking! After arriving home via a somewhat random route (my bad directions) Melissa found an excellent place called Fermento's for lunch. Much better thing to do on a hot day!

Then on Saturday afternoon, the girls went down the beach for a swim whilst the mums rested. We then swapped with them and enjoyed a picnic on the beach with the sun setting whilst the daughters prepared dinner. Then more chat, spa/sauna, and bed. Perfect!

Lots of mothers and daughters in the kitchen!

Its been quite wonderful to see all the girls getting on with each other and we're all enormously grateful to Nas for the idea and the organising each month. I think that what is going on around the world made us all feel particularly grateful this weekend for our daughters, our friendship, and the beautiful and safe country we live in. I made a "mother-daughter" glass platter for Nas as a thank you.

Saying thank you to Nas

Glass bowl for Nas. I had a bit of trouble with the colours unfortunately. The original yellow and red glass paint around the edge disappeared in the first firing sos I had to refire with powder and unfortunately struggled a bit to get the right colours

Mean time, Nas came up with the idea of the mothers going to India - which we were all very enthusiastic about! Perhaps next year?
