Back to Routine, and Work

12 Viewway, Nedlands, WA, 6009 14/02/2026 (Valentine's Day)

Our first full week back at home and work. It was an exhausting week  - I probably had 30 meetings if not more. Catching up with students, meeting with partners to put in place agreements for the centre, and various miscellaneous other projects, management meetings, talks with journalists etc. By Thursday, I'd run out of oomph....

Friday night, we had goodbye drinks for Cheryl and Michael, two fantastic postdocs who have been brilliant and whom I will miss. Actually there were lots of visitors at the drinks, and several staff who have left came back, so it was a lovely night. It made me realise we have created a very special work environment that people value.

Melissa with coloured contact lenses she bought in Japan. About to go out for Alex for Valentine's day...

Talia in Japan (inspired by Melissa, she went for a last minute 10 day trip). She should be back this week some time.

Suzy's tiktok now has over 1 million hits, with some of her new cartoons also having several thousand!

Having said that this week has been exhausting, its been great to get back into routine! I swam this morning for the first time in months, I managed to get to pilates twice during the week, and  I'm getting my eating/ glucose levels back under control. I also spent this afternoon in my glass studio - and after about 2 hours out there, I felt really relaxed and happy. Of course, there are a million things I should be doing around the house (I did do one or two chores, plus a couple of hours of work) but I felt so good after being in the studio, I realised I needed it!

My finished "Tree of life" for Sue 60th. It’s been a complicated one - fired three times!

Tomorrow night I'm going out to watch Ruchi (colleague) perform comedy in the fringe - a show called Shrinkwrapped in which a psychologist (Ruchi) analyses comedians on the stage. I take some responsibility for this because, a few years ago, I connected Ruchi with the comedian who I'd been working with on Comedy for the Curious. This led to Ruchi becoming passionate about comedy, doing lessons, and now performing across the country!

Lots of psychologists in the crowd. Can you guess the collective noun for a group of psych's? A "complex" of psychologists. Quite apt!
