A Torturously Slow Week

 31/10/2025, Friday, 12 Viewway, Nedlands, 6009

This week has stretched interminably. We're still waiting on the outcome of the Centre of Excellence application - so far no news. There is a lot resting on this decision - not just my future but our institute and even our faculty's future. I am so sick of saying "If we get the centre we will do X, if we dont, we will do Y". AAH! We just need to know one way or the other...

On the positive side, Mark and I went to a Bruce Springsteen movie during the week to help pass the time which I really enjoyed (Mark less so). I've also been nipping out and working on the cubby and/or glass projects around 4.30pm/5pm each day, just because my concentration is shot anyway.

Tonight, Friday, is Halloween tonight and everyone is out at parties. Talia and Oscar dressed up as Elvis and Pricilla, and Melissa and Oscar as Wallace and Gromit. Photos below. Both Jess and Didi have also gone out to parties but I didnt manage to get photos of them.

Talia, as Pricilla, looking incredibly like mum on her wedding day

Melissa and Alex (Wallace and Grommit)

I should also mention today I had a phone call... "I've got some exciting news for you" said the person after I answered. My thoughts went immediately to the Centre of Excellence.... But it was the Australian Psychological Society. The woman told me I have won the Australian Psychological Society's Distinguished Contribution Award (major psychology prize in Australia!). The woman was clearly delighted to be telling me this and I (perversely) found myself having to fake being excited. That's how much this centre has been playing on my mind. Anyway the award is not formally announced yet, so I hope it sink in a bit better when it is! I think it will involve a trip to Melbourne.

This weekend is our first one fully at home without a major event since we got back and I am so excited to have some proper time at home. I have swimming and pilates tomorrow, and mother-daughter walk Sunday, but apart from this and a few domestic chores, I intend to be mostly in the garden and doing glass!

We will see what next week brings.... no matter what the outcome, we just need to know!

Cars at our house: Campervan, our car, Talia's car, Jess's car, Melissa's car, Didi's car. Not a party, just a normal day!
