A Month Until Christmas ....

12 Viewway, Nedlands, 27 November Thursday

I am a bit late with last week's blog! Not sure how that happened but I'll keep it short as last week is already feeling a long time ago...

On Monday evening I had the WA Premier's Scientist of the Year award. I went because I won it last year, along with People's Choice Award, so I was sort of curious to see who would get it this year. The judges reverted to type, and the winner was a medical researcher (I suspect me winning the 'scientist' of the year was an anomoly!). On Tuesday, there was a Curtin partners event.

We had Kayelene staying in the van last week. I visited Didi and her in the hospital a couple of times. On the weekend Suzy came with me to visit. Suzy and didi enjoyed making clay flowers from an art kit. As didi was feeling better she was getting very bored!

Anyway Didi has now come out of hospital and has returned to Albany. But she is on the transplant list so this seems to be a good thing, although its still of course an uncertain time with a lot of unknowns.

Last weekend was rather lovely as, other than a movie Friday night and swimming, hairdresser and Bookclub on Saturday, we had nothing on. So Mark bought a new blow torch style weed killer in his neverending quest to eradicate the weeds in the front yard, and I had a blissfull time in the studio. I finally tried making large birds - which was the whole reason I wanted a larger kiln. The bird is not finished, but I think has potential as an idea. The biggest challenge - for this weekend - is how I will connect the glass bird to the copper legs in a robust way.

Mark's extremely serious weed killer!

On Sunday Suzy and I had a lovely bike ride (as we now have two electric bikes because Dad gave us his as he cant ride it anymore). We went up to the old hospital and Suzy took some photos - she has managed to get our old fancy Canon camera working again.

Brief daugher update... Suzy is off visiting Nana and Grandad at the moment; Talia is at leavers in Dunsborough working as a volunteer (she's working with a team that tries to stop kids from drinking and then swimming -  "Dont Drink and Drown" campaign), and Melissa is at home. She is in another very anxious phase, this time manifesting as health worries (fear of dieing of cancer). We're trying to get her some support but the system is overloaded so its slow. But on the positive side she's been a bit better the past few days - she's walking and bought herself a pilates machine.

That's it for now!
